Caterpillars eat the leaves of the plants on which they were born. When they grow enough, they take their first step towards being a butterfly by spinning a cocoon. A caterpillar transforms into a butterfly after spending several days in the cocoon, dismembers it and gets out as a butterfly. The butterfly is wet when it leaves its cocoon. It becomes ready to fly after drying in a couple of hours.
