It would be easy to escape from thİs conclusİon by poİnting to the quantİtatİve factor in the causation of illness-to the greater or lesser extent of the contrİbution made by the varİous elements which determine whether a recognizable illness results or not. But although I accept thİs answer as corre­ct, it is not my intention to make it a reason for rejecting the conclusion itself. On the contrary, 1 shall put forward the view that psychical impoten­ce İs much more wİdespread than İs supposed, and that a certain amount of this behaviour does in fact characterize the love of civilized man.
