One of Kafka's best-known stories, The Metamorphosis was first published on 1915. In the story, a salesman named Gregor Samsa wakes up and finds himself transformed into a huge insect. In this novella, along with his successful use of allegory, Kafka points out one of the major problems of modern individual: alienation. Even if the story sets in absurd, irrational universe, we, as the reader, can easily associate ourselves with the similar signs that we concern deeply.

Suicide is a notion upon which Zweig has always pondered, who prefers to end his own life. And the main theme of Amok is suicide. In the story, a rich woman asks a doctor for help in small town of West Malaysia but he rejects her as he feels humiliated by her arrogant attitude. But then, being obsessed with helping this woman, he becomes an Amok, which leads him to his tragic ending. Zweig reveals all his talent of observing human psychology in Amok by dealing with the dilemma of conscience and mind, death, remorse and the darkest sides of human beings.


-Letter From An Unknown Woman


Written in 1920s, Stefan Zweig tells the story of a woman who is unrecognised and unrequited lover in Letter From Unknown Woman. This nameless young woman reached her unaware lover with this long letter by telling their memories from first day. As reader, while appreciating the patience of life long silence and hiding we don't know this woman as her lover who read the letter never recognised her too. With Zweig's literary talent this book has an unforgetable importance in our literature by emotion of being effaced that derived from never known; based on depth psychological side and human's love feeling we can find out darker sides and obsessions of people via this short but impressive book. Every reader who knows Zweig's success will admiringly read this book which is less known considering the other novels.


-The Murders In The Rue Morgue

The Murders in the Rue Morgue, which has been described as the first modern detective story is referred to a "tales of ratiocination" by Edgar Allan Poe. It was first published in Graham's Magazine in 1841.


The story takes place in Paris and begins with two women's being killed. Main character C. Auguste Dupin uses his analytical intelligence to solve this unusual murder. Will Dupin be able to find real murderer despite the fact that evidences show opposite?
